Emma Pearce

I aim to make movies that evoke feeling, movies that represent the magic of our world through the eyes of characters as flawed as we are, to experience the dark shadows of humanity. I want to create stories that are real and true, representing the combined experiences of youth, longing, complacency, and desire.

As a painter would show you their world, I want to show you mine. A world filled with magic, adventure, and beauty, but also chaos and faults. There is something so beautiful about autumn when the trees are dying, much like the tragic beauty of the destruction of a character. All this, I portray in my writing, photography, and films.

Always influenced by Earnest Hemmingway's short stories, Patti Smith's poetry, Sam Shepard’s plays, the Bronte sisters, Toni Morrison, David Foster Wallace, Sylvia Plath, and William Faulkner.

I am fascinated by the gothic south, small towns, abandoned buildings, dark shadows, and the changing landscape of America.
